Since 2020, the Milton Sea Cadets from RCSCC CHAUDIERE, accompanied by the Navy League Cadets from NLCC ADVENTURE, hosted a remembrance ceremony for the longest continuous military campaign in World War II. This year marks the 80th anniversary of this battle where many Canadians fought bravely for their country. During this campaign, Canada’s Navy grew from a tiny base of ships to become the third largest Navy in the world.
On March 31st six Milton residents received the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition to their contributions that have helped enrich the Milton community and help build a stronger, more inclusive society. The award winners included Don Noel Dsouza, Brian Penman, Masood Pehlvi, Bob Elliot, Stacey Newman and Donna Danielli.
Congratulations to Milton students Simmone Hanna (Gold Junior Level) and Ruby Kparwody (Gold Intermediate Level) for placing first in Milton Legion’s Public Speaking Contest on February 8th. They will both proceed to the next level up in the Ontario Provincial wide Legion speaking contest.
The Montessori School of Milton recently had a cheque presentation to recognize their $10,000 contribution to the Milton District Hospital Foundation. MSM Director Iram Amjad and Program Coordinator Sayedeh Shirazie were present along with MDHF members Jennifer Tasca and Katie McMilan.
The first annual BR Hacks was held this month at Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School in Milton. It was an initiative that was put together by students in collaboration with the school’s administration.
Their aim was to host a one-day event that gave students the chance to experience the creative process involved in product development and showcase their technological abilities, while working towards something that helps either the school, local, or national community. The event also aimed to enhance and facilitate students’ business and computer science skills, as well as general communication and other “soft skills” that show increased importance in the workplace.
The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Chaudière celebrated its 38th Annual Ceremonial Review on May 25 capping off another fruitful year of forming future leaders and maritime enthusiasts. This ceremony honored the commitment and accomplishments of the cadets and instructors that make up the corps and the branch members who render support to the corps.
CPOC1 Arbuckle, who retired as Coxswain, was honored with the Navy League Medal of Excellence. His extraordinary leadership, commitment, and service to the corps are recognized with this prestigious award.
“Cadets has played an important role in making me the person that I am today. It has taught me many valuable lessons regarding leadership, commitment and responsibility. I have been able to create lasting friendships. I am deeply grateful that I was nominated and subsequently selected for this award. I am honoured to have been able to serve as Coxswain for RCSCC Chaudiere.” Said Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Joseph Arbuckle.
On Tuesday, May 7th the HRPS Milton Youth Advisory Council in conjunction with with Halton Regional Police Services (HRPS) organized a Milton Clean Up at the Milton Community Park. With over 30 volunteers the park was able to undergo a considerable cleanup in a 2 hour period. The many volunteers came from mostly local Milton high schools.
The renowned Milton-based NGO, Hum-WE, hosted its much-anticipated “Hum-Sayeban Charity Dinner” recently drawing an impressive crowd of over 150 attendees. The event, which aimed to shed light on the pressing issue of domestic violence, particularly among South Asian women, was graced by several prominent figures, including Milton’s MP Adam Van Koeverden, Regional Councilors Sameera Ali and Samy Ijaz, as well as representatives from the Halton Police Services and other community leaders.
The 5th annual Chris Hadfield Public School Rock Concert was a spectacular success on May 25th during the school’s end of the year celebration. Eight different home grown rock bands from the elementary school performed rock and pop tunes entertaining the parent council run event. The bands consisted of grade 4 to grade 8 students that attend the school and they practiced in an extracurricular activity run by the head of the music department Ms Dey throughout the school year. She even fronted a staff band including the Vice Principal. The spring concert has been a staple since Ms Dey began teaching at the school. The community was delighted to see the return of the event last year after the pandemic. Highlights included songs like Beat It performed by grade 5 band 51 Pilots who are only 10 years old. A grade 8 band called Blue Dey showed their talent with songs like Mr. Blue Sky and Teen Spirit. The performance was managed by the student stage crew. Music thrives in Milton
The Meet and Greet at Sherwood District Park for the 2022 Cricket Season was recently held on April 9th.
Event Ontario Softball Cricket League in Milton with Team Members from MAM, Ali, Best, Hamid and Di Lorenzo today were on hand. Players got the feel of the Cricket Field as well as some team members meeting each other for the first time. EOSCL is starting their 7th season in June with a record number of teams and players participating. It will be one of the best and most competitive leagues this year.
