It’s been a long winter, longer than most it seems. March is traditionally when the gardeners among us head out to Garden shows with our cameras and wallets, searching out ideas, plants and seeds to start our gardens.  2021 has turned out to be a bit different, with no Garden shows, shortages of seeds and online retailers scrambling to fill demands.

Right now as the Hamamelis Mollis (Chinese witch hazel) and Galanthus (snowdrops) are just beginning to bloom, the Society has been planning for months already. Our annual Seedy Saturday event on March 27th is going virtual this year with our brand new website www.miltonseedysaturday.com . We have planned an entire day of online speakers, a virtual seed swap, local online vendors, children’s photo contest and much more. Our website also features sponsorship opportunities for businesses and individuals who wish to support us and our work to beautify Milton and serve the gardeners of town.

We are installing Little Seed Libraries about town for contactless pickups of seeds, gardening and event information and sometimes even plants. These Little Seed Libraries are to be available for anyone in town to access and to donate to. The first will be install at 42 Peru Road by the end of the first week of March. The locations are the homes of our dedicated volunteers, a gardening resource unto themselves. If you happen to visit one and see the Library Steward out in their garden, don’t hesitate to say hello and also don’t be surprised if they try to get you to join our society.

Our annual Plant Sale will be bigger and better than ever before this year with more plants and a new outdoor location at Andrews Scenic Acres. This location will make social distancing easier than before and give us room for many more shrubs, trees, perennials, annuals and vegetable plants, locally grown and lovingly cared for by our members. Mark your calendars for this perennial favorite sale on May 15th.

In addition to these great, free and open to all events there are many more member only activities. Membership in our society is only $20.00 for individuals and $25.00 for families. This year there are 19 incredible speakers scheduled to present, volunteer and social events, a monthly newsletter, spring container workshops, contests, a dahlia swap and so much more.
