During the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, longterm care centers were among the hardest hit. Residents faced isolation, fear, and uncertainty—cut off from family, community, and the world outside their windows. One
winter, a desperate call came from the wife of an Allendale resident. All she wanted was a few Christmas lights to bring a spark of joy to those who had endured so much.
What happened next became one of Milton’s most heartwarming traditions.
An elf—known in everyday life as Mustafa Sajid—answered that call. With his leadership and the generosity of hundreds of Milton residents, enough lights and decorations were collected to illuminate the massive exterior and all three courtyards of Allendale. It transformed the long-term care center into a glowing beacon of hope when the community needed it most.
Six years later, the tradition continues. On Saturday, December 13th, starting at 9:30 AM and running until completion, volunteers will once again gather to bring holiday cheer to the residents and staff of Allendale.
Every year comes with its challenges: lights burn out, large LED displays break under harsh weather, and some decorations have even gone missing from the Ontario Street entrance. Used lights can no longer be accepted due to electrical limitations, so new LED lights and displays are purchased annually.
The event is supported by amazing community heroes like Antonella Vizzini, Rob Hewlett, and Rick Imus who return every year to carol for the residents. Funds are also raised to provide the hardworking staff with a meal from local businesses.
How You Can Help
• Donate new LED lights or displays
• Donate breakfast or a hot lunch for 50–75 volunteers
• Come decorate—high school volunteer hours available
• Join us at 5:00 PM when the lights turn on!
Dress warmly, bring your holiday spirit, and help keep this tradition shining.
A heartfelt thank-you to our major annual supporters: Royal LePage, Mustafa Sajid Realty, and Halton Region Pest Control — your generosity keeps the lights glowing year after year.
