On a Sunday morning in August 20 years ago Troy Newton opened the doors at Troy’s Diner on main street in Milton for the first time. His “Coca Cola” themed All-Day Breakfast diner quickly became the most popular diner in Milton. I should know, for the first 5 years I was there so often that my breakfast order of Steak medium-rare, eggs over easy and a diet coke reached the point where you are only asked if you’d like your regular when you came in.
But Troy’s Diner was always much more than good food and service. It was a philosophy of Miltonians wanting more from their local small businesses. It was the local connection, the constant giving back to the community, where everyone knew your name and was happy to see you. You instantly felt welcome, no matter if you were born in Milton or a fresh convert. They welcomed you in and through osmosis you learned what it was to be a Miltonian.
Troy’s Toy Drive started in 2009 and quickly grew in scope and size changing into the Miracle On Main Street through a longtime collaboration with Troy’s friend Tiger Jeet Singh Jr it became something bigger that took over all of main street each year raising funds for those in need.
Now, twenty years later, Troy Newton has seen his share of both success and sorrow. In February of this year he lost the love of his life, Angie Ritchie to her battle with cancer. Angie was a wonderful human being and her kindness and soft heart made her light up even more whenever she could help others whether it be human or animal. It’s in her loving memory that the staff at Troy’s Diner is having their 20th anniversary this year and donating 25% of all sales form August 1st to 4th to Paws for Angie a charity to assist animals in need. She may have left us but her kindness lives on through “Paws for Angie”.
