The annual Milton Film Festival is ready to roll out the red carpet once again at the First Ontario Arts Centre Milton with an extraordinary line-up of feature films from Canada and around the world, plus short films, special guests, audience Q&As, and an Opening Night Gala After-Party at Marquee Steakhouse.
Milton has a new Cricket League for youth! In December try-outs were held over several time periods where individuals were scored and placed in teams appropriately with the goal of making teams balance so team growth and even-handed competitiveness can be highlighted.
The Dance Shoppe “Milton’s Family Dance Studio!” a cherished Milton institution, celebrates its 30th anniversary under the guidance of its founder and director, Miss Ruth-Ann Gray (nee Hill).
The Community Foundation of Halton North has been providing grants to charities in Milton and Halton Hills since 2015. The Foundation has granted over 1.5 million dollars since it’s start and over $700,000 in 2023. The organization enables donors to give to their favorite causes for years to come, a donation in the foundation is invested and never spent, it keeps earning interest year after year. On December 12th they held a Celebration of Philanthropy at their offices in Milton. Bringing donors, fundholders and grantees in 2023 together serving warm drinks and snacks and talking about the year of good works.
On December 27th Halton Hacks. com held the first Halton Region Hackathon at Milton Public Library. This local community led hackathon was planned and organized by local Milton high school students as well as others from Halton Region.
The Townsend Smith Foundation which is dedicated to building a Residential Hospice for North Halton held their Donor and Recognition event on November 28th at their future hospice site at 8958 Trafalgar Road
November marked the first anniversary of Ladypreneur Junction, celebrated as part of their 6th session at Chef Kausar Autaq Banquet Hall, Mississauga. The Ladypreneur Junction initiative is a brainchild of Hafsa Hussam.
The event brought more than 70 female entrepreneurs from Milton under a roof, with the purpose to help them connect, collaborate and grow together.
The original Milton “On the Way to Bethlehem” has been an annual tradition in Milton since 2001. With the involvement of over 20 local churches and religious organizations. The annual nativity pageant was the inspiration of Dr. Andrea Rowbottom of Milton Grace Church. The founding group retired from organizing the event during the Pandemic.
The First Ontario Centre for the Arts Milton was the venue for the Induction Ceremony for the Class of 2023 into the Milton Sports Hall of Fame.

Long time Miltonian Johann Derecho is presently in Toronto, studying the Artist’s Diploma Programme (ADP) at the
prestigious Glenn Gould School in the Royal Conservatory of Music.
He grew up in Milton, attending Hawthorne Public School and CKSS. Having served as a youth worship leader at New Life Church, he and his family also continue to volunteer there in the
worship ministry.
