The original Milton “On the Way to Bethlehem” has been an annual tradition in Milton since 2001. With the involvement of over 20 local churches and religious organizations. The annual nativity pageant was the inspiration of Dr. Andrea Rowbottom of Milton Grace Church. The founding group retired from organizing the event during the Pandemic.
This year, a group of local churches — Milton St George & St Abanoub Coptic Orthodox Church, Milton Bible Church, Nassagaweya Presbyterian Church, Milton Knox Church and Milton Grace Church has revived the annual event including inheriting many of the original costumes. Milton’s St. George & St Abanoub Coptic Church took the leading role in helping organize the event. But it was a non denominational effort with formal representation from the five Milton churches as well as volunteers from many more (Milton’s St. Benedict & Holy Rosary Parish to name a couple). Several original cast members such as Henry Larsen (King Herod) and Liz Santos (Herod’s advisor this year) have returned to join the new group. Henry Larsen’s performance as King Herod is spellbinding and has been imprinted on the memories of Miltonian’s for many years now.
Monica Nasralla (St. George & St. Abanoub), the Production Manager for the Walk thanked the many volunteers and actors who took part – “We appreciate that you came and stood in the cold and rain, to help spread the true meaning behind Christmas.” She, along with the 2023 Walk to Bethlehem Directors Phoebe Michael, Sylvia Shehata and Fady Youwakim are already thinking about next year’s Walk and future improvements.
