Hope for Bradi

Bradi McCoy is a bright, bubbly, enthusiastic 22-year-old young woman from Milton and is well loved in the community. For many years she has shared her talents with the Town of Milton in the I-CAN special needs programs, and in various leadership roles in aquatics and recreation. Bradi is currently an EA with the Halton District School Board and her dream is to become a teacher.

On March 9th of this year Bradi was the victim of a devastating acid attack near her home. She has suffered life-altering injuries and will have a long recovery period.

Pride Month in Milton

Pride Month in Milton kicked off at Milton Town Hall on June 1st with the Pride Flag Raising. The ceremony was organized by PRISM Milton’s 2SLGBTQIA Group.
The Town of Milton started official raising the Pride Flag back in 2018 and this is the 5th year running with a record turn out at Town Hall. There were several youth speakers representing local schools in Milton talking about both the progress that has been made as well as challenges still to be overcome.

Fine Arts Society of Milton – Heart to Hand 2023

On May 4th 2023 Ursula Mcdermid, Past President of FASM warmly welcomed artists and visitors to the annual Heart to Hand exhibition at the Holcim Gallery at the First Ontario Art Centre in Milton. Ursula acknowledged that the show was a great representation of the varied art of FASM artists, with quite a number of large pieces and work by new members. The organisation is growing. 10 artists have joined this year.

The Reception on May 4th was a pleasant, relaxed event where friends were greeted and much conversation happened while viewing the very varied, fabulous art created by FASM artists. Fine Artist Robert Szyngiel busily took photos of artists with their art. He covers FASM on social media and is the main photographer for FASM events. The magnificent H2H exhibition was once more organised by Anne-Elice Pascoe. She is now in the process of planning the popular FASM Studio Tour which will take place once again in the Fall, showcasing art created by a variety of FASM artists.

Arts Milton – Friendship Project 2023

May 7th at the First Ontario Arts Centre Milton was the inaugural Milton Friendship Project Bus Tour by Arts Milton. The Friendship Project 2023 began with a meet and greet in February, and they are currently in the midst of 14 activities across Milton. Tony the Milton Bus Driver took the Milton Friendship group on a tour to showcase significant landmarks of Milton, including Arts Milton’s 10 traffic boxes, which were created through their Exclusively Inclusive program. Tony also highlighted that the bus being used is a brand-new addition to the towns fleet.

Milton Halal Food Bank gets generous donation

The Association of Nigerian Community in Milton (ANCiM) made a generous cheque presentation for Zakatul-Fitr to our Milton Halal Food Bank in Milton. This is to help families in need, the food bank is located at 50 Steeles Ave E Unit 203 Megan Saliba with MPP Parm Gill’s office also presented a certificate of appreciation to the association. The food bank thanked ANCiM for their contribution. Milton Councillors Adil Khalqi and Sameera Ali were on hand to also show their support.

Mario Durante celebrates 90th Birthday and 60 Years in Milton

Many people wrongfully (IMO) say Milton is the town that Mattamy built. But no business or family has had a greater positive impact to our town than Mario has had.

Mario moved to Milton in 1953, sponsored by his brother who arrived 2 years earlier. From the early days Mario always worked hard, from working on the quarry by Kelso, to then working at the iconic P.L. Robertson factory with his brother. To starting Durante’s Service Station in 1963 with a snack bar attached that served truckers from Dufferin Aggregates. Many successful family businesses have followed since then, too numerous to list.

41st Annual Strawberry Fair on June 24th in Milton

The 41st Annual Strawberry Fair will take place on Saturday, June 24th at the Milton Fairgrounds. This event is organized by the Milton District Hospital Auxiliary which represents the more than 350 volunteers at Milton District Hospital. June Rushak leads a team of dedicated and committed volunteers in organizing this event each year. Thanks to this incredible group of volunteers both past and present, and our generous community of sponsors and supporters, the Strawberry Fair has become a long-standing tradition and a successful fundraiser with all proceeds being directed to Milton District Hospital.

Downtown Milton SummerFest features vendors, music and family fun

Downtown Milton SummerFest is happening on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023. The event features local vendors, live music, kids’ activities, and lots of summertime fun!

Running from noon to 8:00 p.m., SummerFest is the perfect way to celebrate the start of the summer in Milton’s historic downtown. The event is hosted by the Downtown Milton Business Improvement Area (DMBIA) with support from the Town of Milton and many great local businesses and sponsors. The event is presented by BMO Financial Group. The charity partner for the event is Milton Transitional Housing.

The BMO Stage will showcase eight bands playing a wide range of popular songs and original music guaranteed to get you dancing. ACROBAT – The U2 Tribute Band will deliver the final performance of the evening, starting at 7:00 p.m.
