Milton District Hospital is celebrating the official grand opening of nine new Smilezone’s throughout the hospital.

Generously provided by the Smilezone Foundation with the support of Toronto Rock, these bright, fun Smilezone’s include murals, interactive electronics and other kid-friendly activities meant to help improve the experience for children and families when they visit the hospital.

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the Smilezone Foundation. Their team came in and over weekend and completely transformed nine areas at Milton District Hospital”, said Helen Vatistas, Executive Director, Milton District Hospital Foundation. “Each Smilezone is sure to ease the stress and bring a smile to the children’s faces who are receiving treatment at our hospital”.

“We are extremely pleased to continue our relationship with Smilezone Foundation,” said Rock Owner & President Jamie Dawick. “Our fans, players and staff have all embraced our fundraising efforts and we’re looking forward to another great year of working together. We’re proud of our fans for their past support and the upcoming grand opening is another proud moment for all of us in the organization.”

The nine Smilezone’s consist of the Children’s Wait & Play Area in the Emergency Department, four Paedeatric Short-Stay Observation Rooms (POSS) in the Emergency Department, three Fracture Clinic Exam Rooms in the Imaging Department and the Patient Visitor’s Lounge in Maternal Newborn. Each area has been transformed into a fun and engaging space with bright colours, murals and interactive games.

The murals were carefully selected to pay homage to Milton’s roots and include beautiful nature scenery, farm and tractor murals with baby animals, horses, sports (including hockey and lacrosse) and even an escarpment mural. Each mural brings to life the warmth of the Milton community.

“We are thrilled to bring 9 new Smilezones to the Milton District Hospital to enhance the experience of children and families accessing care” says Scott Bachly, Co-Founder of Smilezone Foundation, “A huge thank you to our continued partner Toronto Rock for making these Smilezones a reality.”
