What is the Ruck to Remember? It is an initiative started nine years ago by a civilian who because of medical issues could not join the military but wanted to support our Canadian Veterans and other first responders, including Paramedics, Firefighters and Law Enforcement. Lino Nevio DiJulio started the Ruck to Remember to raise funds for first responders’ different charities. This year “Operation Leave the Streets Behind” a Royal Canadian Legion Charity to get homeless veterans off the streets was their focus!

On Day 26, our local Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #136 was proud to host these warriors in their own right with a fundraiser BBQ steak dinner. The Town of Milton was kind enough to allow our rucksack marchers to use the local sports arena for showers and they bedded down in the Legions Museum for the night. After a hearty breakfast, we sent them on the way to their next destination. Dan Philip (1st vice and a veteran) of the Legion said “What a great bunch of men and women. We were so pleased to host them at our Legion and we are grateful for what they are doing!”

The BBQ fundraiser raised $1260, and our Legion donated another $5000 to the cause. As we say in the military Bravo Zulu (congratulations for those civilians out there) for a job well done! We appreciate all you do for our veterans and first responders!
