In the face a continuous attack on Canada’s Independence from the American government, we must turn adversity into an opportunity—emerging not just as a country protecting its interests, but demonstrating strength through unity.

We need to teardown our inter-provincial trade barriers. Barriers between provinces range from health and safety regulations to the basics of ingredients a product needs to meet each province’s regulatory requirements. To drop these barriers will require an agreement to create the same rules across the whole country and scrap provincial regulations and replace them with federal regulations.

We need to be energy independent which means creating east-west pipelines so we aren’t reliant on the United States for transport of oil and petroleum products. This w ill require a substantial investment in infrastructure and the understanding that relying American transit is a lever that will and is being used against us.

Canada’s response to the U.S. Trump government should not be divided along party lines. A unified, non-partisan approach ensures that national interests remain protected regardless of which party is in power. We need to start developing bipartisan policy on critical issues and ensure that we are more committed to solving problems rather than political posturing. Conservatives, Liberals and New Democrats need to come together to advocate for a united
Canadian front in response to U.S. trade policies. Eliminate all negative campaigning and the attacks on other Canadian political parties and focus on how we can work together. Party platforms need to be changed to have a Canadian First approach and eliminate partisanship rhetoric.

Canada cannot afford to only be reactive to Trump’s policies. By prioritizing a strong local economy and ensuring political unity we can come out of this stronger.
