Ward 1 residents deserve fair representation on Milton Council On May 15th a judicial recount by Justice Leonard Ricchetti of the Superior Court of Ontario confirmed Kristina Tesser Derksen as the MP for Milton East Halton Hills South. At that moment her seat on Milton Town Council became vacant. Before the ink was dry on Tesser Derksen’s win, lobbying started by people looking to be appointed to Milton Council as her replacement.
On May 26th Milton Council will make a decision – call a byelection for ward 1 and let residents decide or have Council make that decision for them and appoint someone. Milton Ward 1 includes Downtown Milton, Campbellville, Brookville and areas that are both “new” and “old” Milton. It’s a diverse area that encapsulates in one ward new and old, urban and rural. The idea that Milton would appoint a friend of council and/or former politician and/or candidate does not pass the reasonable smell test. Milton residents deserve to have a vote in who represents them. Council selecting a former candidate or politician who ran and lost is not voting. Let people make that choice, not Milton Council.
