The Milton Toastmasters Club held their 35th Anniversary and Open House on May 30th with nearly 60 people in attendance and it was a huge success.  Having been a Milton Toastmaster member myself for eight years and on the executive as Vice President of membership in the past I can tell you what an amazing club this is.  I not only learned a lot in the way of public speaking and improved on my listening skills but I made some amazing friends that I still have to this day.

The Milton Toastmasters Club has a total of 34 members some newer members and several members have been with the club for a very long time.  Joyce Scott (the first female member) has been with the club for 31 years and when asked why she keeps coming back she replied “it’s a very supportive club and a safe environment”. Also Betty Nisbet who has been with the club for 29 years says she keeps coming back because of the good friendships and it cheers her up, she said with a smile.  Betty Nisbet says she wanted to improve her public speaking for the position of Vice President of the Milton District Hospital Auxiliary and has recently received her 45 year pin.  A newer member Sebastian Acosta, a high school teacher has been with the club for 2 1/2 years now and the current Vice President of Membership says he was inspired to be a motivational speaker and mentioned he loves the entertainment value and finds it to be an all-around fun club.  He continued to say that a friend of his who gave a speech at a wedding recommended Toastmasters to him and he is very glad he did.

Did you know that Milton Toastmasters has been around for a very long time?  Yes it has.  Mr. Ralph C. Smedley founded Toastmasters in October 1924 in the United States.  Toastmasters International (TI) is a non-profit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication and leadership skills.
