On June 23rd organizers of the Milton Running Group Speaker Series presented a donation cheque to the Milton District Hospital Foundation for the COVID-19 response Fund. The Speaker Series, held online, throughout the COVID-19 lockdown raised over $1000!
“A speaker series for Milton runners in support of Milton District Hospital Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund. Up your running game by getting tips from professionals, find a local running group and run at an appropriate pace.”, says the Milton Running Speaker Series Facebook page. Milton residents Ron Gorospe, Deanna Orsi and Emil Matacz banded together during the lockdown to create the Milton Running Speaker Series as a temporary, online initiative for Milton runners to learn more and get better at running safely while raising money for the MDHF.
Ron Gorospe is one of the Founders of the Milton Running Group on Facebook. A group of like-minded people who just enjoy running, and hopefully learn and grow together in improving the art of running. Deanna Orsi is one of the Founders of a Facebook group called Orange Snail’s Pace. A group that meets regularly to run and meet at Orange Snail brewery for drinks and to socialize. Both groups are free to join on Facebook and open to anyone interested in running at any level. Emil Matacz is a local Milton resident who enjoys running and volunteering to support various organizations in Milton. When he isn’t running or volunteering he is helping local families secure their future as a Wealth Management Advisor .
Throughout May and June speakers were available via zoom online on Thursday evenings and included a range of running topics such as orthopedic experts, Pilates instructors, nutritionists, Olympic Athletes and running event organizers. The zoom sessions were free and open to all but participants were encouraged to make a donation directly to the Milton District Hospital Foundation. Prizes were drawn during each session for those who made a donation. The prizes were donated by local Milton businesses who also supported the initiative.
Vanessa Briguglio, Major Gifts and Community Engagement Officer at Milton District Hospital Foundation expressed her gratitude at the cheque presentation ceremony to all the Participants, local businesses, speakers and organizers of the speaker series.
