On April 2, Gurdwara Singh Sabha Milton, in partnership with the Milton Sikh Society and Milton Punjabi Community Club, hosted a heartfelt community ceremony in recognition of Sikh Heritage Month. Held in the heart of Milton, the event brought together residents, local dignitaries, and families to honour the Sikh community’s contributions to Canadian society.
The ceremony was co-emceed by Sandeep Sambhi and Parmjit Singh Pamma, and opened with Ardaas—a Sikh prayer for unity and gratitude— led by Bhai Gurjeet Singh. Special guests who addressed the audience included Mayor Gord Krantz, MP Adam van Koeverden, MPP Zeeshan Hamid, and Chief of Police Stephen Tanner, each sharing messages of iinclusion, unity, and celebration. MPP Zeeshan Hamid also publicly committed to supporting the group’s efforts in securing a suitable location for their future place of worship.
Speeches highlighted the history and values of Sikhism, including equality, service (Seva), and justice. Attendees also heard the inspiring story of Baltej Singh Dhillon, the first RCMP officer permitted to wear a turban in uniform—a milestone in Canada’s journey toward religious freedom and inclusion.
Local federal MP candidates and Milton councillors were also in attendance, demonstrating strong cross-community support. Attendees were encouraged to visit the Gurdwara, learn more about Sikhism, and explore opportunities to get involved. “It takes a community to build something meaningful— and everyone is welcome here,” the audience was reminded.
