Halton Hitz is an online radio station covering all of Halton Region. It’s known for its mix of easy-listening music and local news weather and sports. Owner Lee Lakin runs the station from his Acton-based home studio. “Nine years later, and nobody’s still not doing it. I’m blown away that nobody’s done it.” Lakin said of the station’s local nature.

The news consists of stories, and events in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills. “We do our stories because we live here. It’s not just a paycheque,” he said. The on-air personalities are also local, with home-based studios. He runs it 24 hours/day, 7 days a week throughout the year. “It doesn’t ever really shut off, unless you manually shut the thing off,” he said.

Community has been at the core of the station’s mandate with Lakin appearing at hundreds of different events over the years. “I think that’s what keeps going. Every summer, I get to hang out with a lot of really cool people, and see a lot of really cool stuff. It makes it worthwhile,” Lakin said. He’s appeared at the Downtown Milton Street Festival, and Men in High Heels fundraiser for Halton Women’s Place, as well as Halton Hills’ appearance on Hometown Hockey. “We’re fortunate to be able to go to events like that in this community. Promote those events in this community, and be a part of it.

2020 stands as a rebuilding year. Lakin’s dealt with some health issues over the last couple of years, and has taken time off to deal with them. “And also look at where we’re going in 2020 with the station and what we want to do,” he said. They want to bring live DJ’s back to the station through the business day, and stay on top of trending news.

They have unveiled a new website. “It’s going to be key in the sense of building again in the communities where we dropped off the last couple of years, getting to more events. I personally believe we live in a great region.” To learn more about Halton Hitz, visit their website at: www. haltonhitz.com
