Recently, on October 16th 2023, FASM, the Fine Arts Society of Milton elected a new President, Diana Tuszynski. She replaces Past President Ursula McDermid, who has been a dynamic and inspirational leader of the artistic community during her long tenure. During Ursula’s time as President, several major public projects have been created by groups of FASM members: e.g: the beautiful (8ft x 33 ft) mural which is displayed for all to view in the lobby of the Milton & District Hospital; the Pan Am Mural hung in the Mattamy National Cycling Centre on Tremaine Road; the collaborative project with the Milton & District Canadian Federation of University Women: 100 yrs/100 Women for the CFUW’s 100 year anniversary.

Diana Tuszynski comes to the role after several years on the FASM Board with business expertise that will ease the Fine Arts Society of Milton into its next phase. FASM starts the year with a new Strategic Plan, a growing membership of over 100 artists and several new board members.

FASM, founded in 1997, is a not for profit organization of artists of varied media, cultures and stages of arts’ experience who are gathered together to share, grow and create a vitally strong and engaged art community. The organization shares its creativity by inviting everyone to view their biannual member shows in the Holcim gallery (FOACM). The public are also encouraged to explore the picturesque rural and urban area in and around the Milton area and to enjoy a vast variety of artwork during the annual FASM Studio Tour.

FASM encourages membership of artists from diverse backgrounds and is an inclusive group that promotes the appreciation of the visual arts and collaboration with the community at the core.

President Diana Tuszynski wishes to invite the public to come to the Holcim gallery and experience FASM’s upcoming Celebrate the Season show at the Holcim Gallery

“When you view original works of art,” she explains: “you can feel the energy and vitality of the artists. You may find a work to be calming or uplifting or perhaps thought provoking or even sorrowful. Art is meant to stir the emotions. We hope you will look up your favourite artists on social media and follow them for future shows.
” Past President Ursula McDermid observes that: “This annual show demonstrates the fabulous variety of mediums within the FASM membership. Our artists come through every time in pleasing the viewers and making sure the pieces are thought provoking and uplifting.”

The Opening Reception for the Celebrate the Season show will be held at the Holcim Gallery at the First Ontario Arts Centre next to the Main Library on Friday, Dec.1st from 7pm – 9pm. The show will once more be very ably managed by Glass Artist, Anne Ellice Strong. It will run from December 6th until January 7th 2024. For more information about FASM visit them at www.fasm.ca
