International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is #PressForProgress as we continue to address Gender Parity. The World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report states that the gender gap is widening and that it will take 217 years to achieve gender parity globally. Of the 144 countries assessed, Canada ranks # 16.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, CFUW Milton and District is hosting two community events:

  1. Wednesday, March 7th @ 7:30 p.m.: Screening the short film, “50/50 – The Past, Present and Future of Women + Power”, followed by a panel discussion, including Milton Town Councillor Cindy Lunau. Open to the public, this free event will take place at the Milton Sports Centre, in the Banquet Room.
  2. Thursday, March 8th@ 10:00 a.m.: Starting at Milton Town Hall with a Proclamation by Mayor Gordon Krantz, we invite members of our community to march in downtown Milton to raise awareness for Gender Parity. We recommend people arrive between 9:30 – 9:45.
