The Canadian Indian Association of Halton Region proudly celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with a grand event at the Milton Lions Club on August 16, 2025. This vibrant celebration brought together community members in a spirited display of cultural pride and patriotism.

The event commenced at 4:30 PM with a dignified flag-hoisting ceremony led by the Hon’ble Mr. Kuljit
Singh Arora, Consul General of India, alongside Krishtina Tesser Derksen, M.P. (Liberal Party).

Several senior community leaders and Canadian association representatives also attended, honouring India’s
independence legacy while underscoring the strong and enduring relationship between Canada and India.
Following the flag-hoisting, the celebration unfolded into a dynamic cultural program showcasing India’s rich and diverse heritage. Attendees were treated to an array of vibrant performances by local talent, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions and spirited energy of Indian culture.
The Canadian Indian Association of Halton Region, a non-profit organization, plays a pivotal role in fostering cultural unity and strengthening ties between the Canadian and Indian communities. In his address, Mr. Jagmohan Mainra expressed heartfelt gratitude to the community and emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and unity for future generations.

The celebration also highlighted the active involvement of the Association’s Board of Directors and Committee members, including Mr. Nilesh Patel, Mrs. Hassu Sthankiya, Mr. Nik Thakkar, Mr. Rohit Sharma, Mrs. Shona Sharma, Mr. Jigar Patel, Mrs. Hetal Shah, and Mrs. Shikha Dhingra.
