Coldest Night of the Year Day has been officially proclaimed as February 24, 2024 by Milton Mayor Gord Krantz in the town of Milton.

2024 marks the eleventh year Milton Transitional Housing has hosted the family friendly fundraising walk in support of those experiencing or at risk of homelessness in our community. More than $600,000 has raised over the past ten years with a goal of raising another $100,000 at this year’s event at the Milton Sports Centre.

“My phone is ringing off the hook now more than ever with people needing a place to live, “ explains MTH Executive Director Donna Danielli. “With rising costs in food, transportation and housing, it is getting harder and harder for those living below the poverty line, or those experiencing mental health issues, race/gender discrimination or domestic violence to access the adequate food, housing, employment and community support that they need.”

MTH provides rent geared to income housing, food boxes, and case management support and has seen on the ground impact of their work through their client’s success.

“We’ve grown from 1 housing unit in 2012 to 10 units full at all times“ says Danielli. “We’ve seen 27 families, (33 adults and 24 children) graduate from our program and go on to long term affordable housing of their own.

We couldn’t offer the support or have the success we do without the incredible generosity of this community every year on Coldest Night of the Year. I am so incredibly grateful to our sponsors, team captains, walkers and volunteers who make such a difference in the lives of those who need it the most.”
