Help. Education. Support. These are the three approaches the Milton Divorce and Separation Support Group leads with when dealing with individuals going through the trials and tribulations of divorce and separation.
“The Milton Divorce and Separation Group is committed to inspire positive outcomes and community support for families navigating divorce and separation,” says Emil Matacz, a Founding Partner and a Wealth Management Advisor, also a single father who has been through the process and aims to give back to the people who might be finding themselves in a similar situation.
The group comprises seven panelists: a Psychotherapist, Marriage Mentor, Lawyer, Wealth Management Advisor, Realtor, Event Planner and Brand Designer; individuals who have experience in the various stages of Marriage, Separation, Divorce, Re-Marriage and the “it’s complicated” category.
“Group members can come and meet the panelists at the monthly support group meetings which are held on the last Tuesday of every month at Sherwood Community Centre,” says Emil. “The next monthly support event is on February 25th, 2020.”
The event will cover topics such as, making the decision to split, communicating with your ex/partner and going over each panelist’ specialty. This provides members with a chance to ask questions, seek information and connect with other members as well as panelists’.
The group has three pronged approaches which includes: 1) Online modules that you can log in and review based on the monthly topic; 2) Monthly social events to meet and learn from others; 3) Monthly support group meetings with a panel of experts.
Members can access the online modules, review the content which includes videos and worksheets as well as submit questions for the panelists prior to attending the event.
“Emotional support and Financial support are only two areas of a complicated and very personal process,” says Emil. “People may be in different stages of the process and need legal advice, they may be separated and need dating advice, they may need help figuring out how to cook now that their partner is gone or how to deal with a child who is acting up.”
Emil, himself, needed financial and emotional support when he was going through separation and felt he was lost when it came to things like needing help to sell his property and raising his daughter and making sure he was doing the best thing for her. It took him a lot of trial and error to get where he is today because he had nowhere to turn to ask for help and feels that through this group, he can help others going through the same path and help individuals guide and navigate the contemplating possibilities of a separation or divorce through the means of this community.
“We offer a positive approach. We want to save marriages, if it is possible, but help those who feel trapped in a hopeless situation. Our facebook cover has three symbols symbolizing couples who are married, divorced or separated because we believe couples and individuals need help in all these stages,” added Emil.
The group provides one on one coaching or support to its members along with providing a platform for general skills and ideas so that members may solve their problems through a confidential log in space where members can access this information.
“We welcome both men and women and offer a safe space. Learning from the perspective and stories of others can provide meaning to our own situation and we encourage sharing feelings and ideas in a safe environment,” says Emil.
