Despite an afternoon downpour that opened the clouds and turned the skies grey, the sun arrived just in time for Milton’s Ice Cream Social on July 27th in Victoria Park outside the Town Hall.

Town of Milton Community Development Coordinator Janet Davidson watched proudly as families came out in hoards to celebrate the re-opening of the park, a reinvigoration of the Cenotaph, and Milton’s 160th Birthday. The Milton Concert Band presented a 45-minute program in honour of the special occasion.

The line for Ice Cream Lab desserts was long, but parents lined up undaunted with their little ones in tow. In some cases, a diligent parent saved a place in line, while the children took the opportunity to play on the new Victoria Park play structures. Camilla Wanders was there with her three children, Hudson (7 years), Caspian (4 years), and Azura (1 year). She was happy to be out with the kids, creating memories of their last summer in Milton before moving back to Australia.

Other children’s activities include Firetruck tours, mural art and face painting by Town volunteers. Ross and Nicole Jones opted to bring dinner over to the park from Main Street Bistro and have a picnic with their two babies Hudson (20 mos) and Harlow (1 month). Residents of Milton for 9 years, Victoria Park is within walking distance to their home and the thought of free ice cream was hard to pass up.

Mayor Krantz, dressed in his Victorian best, was called to the stage as a “Steward of the Park” to kick off the event. Krantz has lived next to Town Hall for decades, and walks through the park almost every single day.
