Venetian masks lent an air of mystery to the Granite Ridge Golf Club November 3, 2018. The Italian Canadian Club of Milton (ICCM) hosted its sixth annual Venetian gala benefitting the Milton District Hospital Foundation (MDHF).
Italian music filled the air as the evening began with a cocktail hour. Attendees filtered in, and were invited to bid on several silent auction items lining one wall. Rinaldo Brizzi is an ICCM board member, and credited the diversity among the attendees. “It helps people understand other people’s cultures,” he said. The club raised money for the hospital’s maternal-newborn unit last year. This year the plan is to decide together with MDHF on where to best use the funds raised.
Speeches from organizers kicked off the evening’s official festivities. Peter Conteducca brought greetings from the Foundation’s board. “Without the support of events like the Venetian Gala, our expanded hospital would not have become a reality,” he told the crowd. The cause is what keeps Rick Kluhspies coming back. “Someday we’re all going to need it at some point. So give now, while you can” Kluhspies said.
MDHF is a charitable foundation that raises money for all essential hospital equipment, and to improve facilities. MDH opened a 330,000 sq. ft. expansion in October, 2017. The expansion included increased patient care beds, a new maternity ward, and Emergency Room. For more information including how to give visit their website at: www.mdhf.ca
