Author Diksha Pal Narayan has released her second children’s book with a continued focus on simplifying Hindu customs and popular festivals for young children. A follow up to “Ved and Friends Celebrate Dussehra and Diwali,” Pal Narayan’s second book is entitled “Ved’s Little Book on Devotion.” The book came together quickly – Pal Narayan began writing it in early spring of 2018.

Having moved to Canada in 2009, Diksha Pal Narayan worked in the Canadian and Indian television industries before taking a sabbatical from work to be a stay at home mother to her child who was born in 2013.

On November 4, 2018, the Milton Public Library hosted a launch of this latest release in partnership with the author. A crowd of family, friends and public figures gathered in the MPL Bandura Fireplace Lounge to show their support for the project. Milton MPP Parm Gill says, “Our kids need creative and innovative ways of learning about our culture.”

Based on her family, and her own son, “Ved and Friends Celebrate Dussehra and Diwali” focuses on two major festivals within the Hindu faith. The author’s subsequent book brings children back to the basics of Hinduism and covers topics including traditional clothing, important ceremonies, holy books and festival calendars. It also touches on more general children’s development such as good habits.

Diksha explains her inspiration: “I wanted to write another book in which Ved gets a glimpse into Hinduism. As I was writing, I realized that this is a book for all Canadian children. Raising culturally-aware children is very important. We are in a land that celebrates diversity and, with knowledge, all children can better understand each other’s cultural background.” She goes on to describe the work’s deeper message, “The book speaks about core values – all of those things that we want our children to grow up to be – strong, responsible and kind human beings.” Both books can be purchased at amazon.ca.
