Sometimes it only takes one person with an idea and ta..ta… it happens. Susan Capone (Event coordinator) decided it would be a great idea to host a community event including dogs since she is a dog lover herself and owns a rescue German Shepherd named Brady who is about 6 years of age. With her idea and some advertising on social media the word got out pretty fast and many came out to BarkFest bringing their dogs with them.
This was the first year for the event and with the help of Danielle Cordingley (General Manger of The Mohawk Inn) and Bridget Saulnier (Owner of Mohawk Inn & Conference Centre) it all came together perfectly and was held right behind the Mohawk Inn where there’s plenty of space. It was a perfectly cooler day where the dogs were comfortable with no panting nor any dog disagreements to be seen which is always a plus.

The event began with Dog Training demonstration by Mary Nebesny and Cam Samoyloff of Family Pet Services which was one of the days highlights. The dog costume contest was “so much fun” Susan said and prizes were won for the winners. There were 32 vendors on hand where pet owners could learn more about different needs for their dog and or purchase things such as dog treats, clothes, toys and more. Proceeds from the event went to a local dog rescue named Northern Reach Rescue Network-Southern Connection who take care of so many abused dogs and find their for ever good homes in southern Ontario. What a great organization! When a participant of the event was asked one word about the event she said it is “funtastic”.
