Milton Allendale is a well known Long Term Care facility in Milton where since 2020 a dedicated group of volunteers have been has “Lighting Up Allendale” each Christmas. Bringing Christmas cheer to many elderly Milton residents.

Originally the idea of local Milton resident Laraine Goodban who was visiting her husband Gordon at the facility. She thought how the people might appreciate being able to see Christmas lights outside their windows. After putting out a cry for community help, local resident Mustafa Sajid helped organize a merry band of volunteers to make it happen.

This year they had the largest turn out yet of volunteers. Since early in the morning over 60 people including students from all Milton High Schools were working putting up Christmas decorations. A special surprise decoration was the “Allendale Scenic Courtyard” christmas sign designed by Mary Camastra. If you are “in the know” you might have heard that Milton agricultural legend, Bert Andrews now calls Allendale his home. Bert along with Lauraine Andrews were the former owners of the iconic Andrew’s Scenic Acres. So the sign is a play on words homage to that.

“Spreading love and joy through simple acts of kindness” was Herman Chiu’s words when asked to describe what the group wanted to accomplish. “Whether it be open a door for someone or even a quick smile and acknowledgement” he continued.
