“For me, this is the best night of  the year, because I get to say Thank  You, to all of you. Not just for being McDonald’s employees, but for being amazing students, amazing community members, amazing volunteers, amazing human beings and I get to celebrate that tonight” said Cam Binnie, owner of HJMAC McDonald’s. August 12th was Scholarship Night for the employees, and children of employees of McDonald’s restaurantsin Milton and Mississauga owned by both HJMAC and HSBIN. Cam and Amanda Binnie started HJMAC about 17 years ago. “One of the great things, is having your kids take over part of your business” says Binnie. On February 6th this year, Hannah Binnie their daughter bought 2 of the McDonald’s restaurants in Milton creating the new company HSBIN.

“McDonalds has always been known for being members of the community. Everyone knows Ronald McDonald
House, it helps out families that are going through the worse situations with young kids. We also raise money for Milton District Hospital, Halton Women’s Place, hockey teams, bunch of stuff like that. But what I like about
this, is we get to give back to you, our employees who work so hard and how much we appreciate all of you. So although we are involved in many things, this one is very special to us” About 20 Milton employees and children of employees were on hand to receive their scholarships, along with the HJMAC/HSBIN leadership teams and representatives from McDonalds Corporate. Cam started the scholarship program about 15 years ago for their staff, but they have been growing it every year.

Hannah and Cam feel so privileged to be in Milton. They learned very quickly what a wonderful community Milton is, they got to meet many leaders in the community and they realized how giving Milton is. McDonald’s always has a philosophy of giving back where they do business. Cam and Hannah have adopted that philosophy and taken it further. “Some would say, as scholarship winners you guys are the lucky ones. But we feel very lucky, having you working for us” said Hannah to the scholarship families. The night continued with videos that each scholarships winner sent in about themselves that were fantastic, fun, smart and imaginative. “What you do, and what you showed us in your applications, how you volunteer, how McDonald’s is part of your life but also the so many things you do that are outstanding and special” said Binnie. “I just want to say to the Parents, Thank you, Thank you for sharing your kids with us. Thank you for trusting us, because we want your kids experience at HJMAC & HSBIN to be a very positive one”
