A program for our youth rooted in the deep belief that every young person has potential and value and deserves respect and a safe space to be themselves. The affection between peers is evident the minute you walk through the door. One youth, in particular, caused quite a stir when he debuted his new haircut. I learned that he was a newcomer to Canada and his parents were looking for a safe space for him to make friends when they found Re: Soul. Well done, parents; Mission completed! High Fives, Hugs and something cooking in the kitchen fills the room; for some teens, this is home.
I met with Michelle, a parent of a recent grad who is off exploring beautiful Banf while working in a ski lodge. She told me the change from when she started coming to Re: Soul to where she is now has been incredible. Her daughter was painfully shy and suffering from social anxiety. Michelle knew her daughter needed help but didn’t know where to turn. Thankfully, she knew Michael, the group’s director, and went to him for support. With the help of Brianna, the centre’s child and youth worker, they created a place of encouragement and comfort, helping her become the young adult she is today.
When asked, Michael told me the most important thing he wants our readers to know is that Everyone is welcome! The centre depends 100% on community funding.
