Sikh Heritage Month was offcially proclaimed at Milton Town Hall with Mayor Krantz on behalf of the town. Gurmail S Saggu helped and local Milton and Halton residents and groups helped organize the event with volunteers and Milton Town Staff. Many dignitaries were there with a large audience of Milton Sikh residents as well as guests from surrounding areas. Guests were also served with tea, samosas, tim bits and sweet desserts.

Mayor Krantz was joined by Milton MP Adam van Koeverden, former Milton MPP’s Parm Gill and Indira Naidoo-Harris. Milton MPP Candidate Galen Naidoo Harris was also invited to the podium to speak a few words. Speakers from both the South Asian and India / Hindu communities were invited as well to come up and speak to the crowd. Near the closing of the event Gurmail asked if anyone else in the audience would like to say a few words. He wanted to ensure everyone who wished to speak had an opportunity.

Sikhs all over Canada and internationally come together to celebrate Vaisakhi in April also known as Khalsa Day, signifying the creation of the Khalsa and the Sikh articles of faith.

The Sikh community has made significant contributions to the growth of Milton and its prosperity, and will continue to do so.
