The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Fraternal Order. The order is dedicated to the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism and they have 4 degrees of knighthood. It was founded in 1882, with the first 4th degree Canadian ceremony occurring in 1907. With the first degree of charity being the basis of all they do as Knights and as Catholics.

For 2024 on March 9th three Milton members (Mark Walker, Michael Vertolli, and Rick Di Lorenzo) along with 36 other knights from Southern Ontario underwent the 4th Degree Exemplification in the Diocese of St. Catherine’s with Catholic Bishop Bergie Attending. In years past each degree’s initiation and ceremony was shrouded in secrecy with Knights requiring to swear not to disclose what occurs. In recent years that has changed and become more transparent.

4th Degree Knights serve as Honour Guards with uniform regalia and swords while also embracing the Order’s fourth principle of patriotism. Reaching out to veterans and active military and to embody the fact that one can both be a faithful Catholic as well as a faithful citizen in serving to help all people in humility and grace.
