In 2013, Steve Sampaio and wife CariMae purchased a beautiful 11-acre oasis at 12084 Sixth Line Nassagaweya – promptly named “Steve’s Acres” in ode to a long-term dream finally acquired. The property had a park-like setting next to water, but also included an expansive tree farm. With intents to partially landscape, the couple decided to hold a small fundraiser through the sale of Christmas trees. The event was a success and the seed of philanthropy was planted.

Following years have seen the development of the Annual Steve’s Acre’s CHRISTMAS HOPE Fundraiser. The outdoor event, which takes place this year on December 2, 2017 from 11-5 pm, invites Halton residents to visit the Sixth Line property for a day full of fun including tractor rides, DJ led Christmas tunes, a bon fire with hot chocolate and coffee, food from Troy’s diner food truck, and special guests including Rosie the Piggy and a visit from Santa Claus.

The event is free, but in addition to donations, money is raised for local charitable organizations through the sale of home décor items created by Steve’s restoration and Renovation Company entitled “Vintage Ideas.” Pieces for sale include hot home By Kaitlyn Patience Photographs by Denise Cooperwhite products like wall art, classic blanket ladders, chalkboards, live edge wood charcuterie boards, and the couple’s signature vintage crates.

Funds raised are converted into Walmart gift cards and donated to organizations that include Our Kids Networks of Milton and Acton, Links2Care, Milton Transitional Housing, and Holy Rosary Parish. This year’s offerings will also be extended to Halton Families for Families.

When asked about the motivation behind this fundraiser, Steve replied, “To me and my family, Christmas is the most magical time of the year for both children and grown-ups. However, life throws curve balls to many families, and our mission is to help those families to still have that magical Christmas. The smiles on children’s faces opening gifts on Christmas morning is priceless. Family getting together for a turkey dinner with love and laughs is priceless.”
