The South Asian Mommies of Milton is a social group which started 2 years ago by Ramya Siva and Diksha Pal Narayan in an attempt to get the South Asian mothers together. This year they planned an entire week of festivities for the mothers in their group. Talented, professionals who are also mommies opened their doors to the SAMM mothers and shared their talent. Ramya is an Educational Consultant and owner of Sky is the Limit Consulting, while Diksha is journalist and author of the children’s book Ved and Friends Celebrate Dussehra and Diwali.
On Monday, Vandana Jilka-Majithia of the Bollywood West Dance Studio had a special dance session for the SAMM moms, which saw 20 ladies groove to the latest and greatest of Bollywood numbers. On Tuesday, Nutritionist Dimple Arora of Mindful Evolution taught the importance of healthy in family meals, and must haves in our children’s diets.
On Wednesday, Makeup artist Nidhi Jog of Flawless Beauty taught the women of the dos and don’ts of applying makeup. Thursday say Asifa of Asifa Minhas Photography taught the ladies neat tricks while using the camera. Friday saw Chef Sanchari Halder teach the art of plating, make easy appetizers. What made the day more special was that she had her mother visiting her from India. Her mother Mina Das, is an accomplished chef herself and has been featured in a few Cooking shows in India.
The week was a fun way to interact with the mothers in the community, the events were all free and there was a full house at each event. We saw first time mothers, pregnant mothers, and seasoned mothers all unite and celebrate motherhood.
