The Rotary Club of Milton makes up a team of good Samaritans who are committed to raising and distributing funds for important community causes. Their history within our town stretches more than 65 years. On May 28, 2019, Rotarians gathered with supporters to announce the recipients of their various awards and donations.

“Tonight is the culmination of our Rotary year. Everything that we have fundraised this year – tonight we’re giving it away!” Rotary Club of Milton member and Past President Rod McLachlan is proud of the work his group has accomplished. The Club is perhaps best known for their annual Denim and Diamonds Spring Gala, but they also coordinate an online web auction, sponsor Game On Ball Hockey for R.O.C.K., and volunteer their time at event slike the Milton Canada Day festivities and Milton Good Neighbours Day.

The Rotary’s support of youth is evident in both their international youth exchange program, and in the bursaries they provide  to local highschool students. This year’s recipients included Alisha Bustamante, Rashaad Ishmail, and Abbey Lenardin. Lenardin, who was given the Mike Ledwith Volunteer Bursary, is completing Grade 12 at Craig Kielburger Secondary School, and plans to study humanities at university. The most recent international exchange students include Kathryn, who left Milton to live in Japan for almost a year. “It’s hard to explain the effect Japan has on you. I would go back in a heartbeat!” Guilia, a student from Northern Italy has spent her time in Milton with three very welcoming host families. She comments, “It’s been great – I haven’t even been homesick!

The bulk of the Rotary’s fundraising is for the Milton District Hospital Foundation as part of a multi-year commitment. The funds cover the cost of a beautiful pediatric family room for visitors and family members of patients. Other fundraising recipients include the Townsend Smith Foundation, Polio Plus, Kids Against Hunger and the Rotary Foundation .
