Studies have shown that wine has many health benefits such as reducing risk for heart disease, and stroke. On March 22, RDC Networks hosted their fifth annual wine tasting at Casa Americo benefitting the Milton District Hospital Foundation (MDHF). RDC Networks is a local IT company owned by Carol, and Robert Duvall. Every year they donate to a different charity.

Attendees entered the restaurant and were allowed to sit where they wanted. It led to a cheerful atmosphere, and spirit of enjoyment. “Everyone’s mixing, and mingling, and enjoying the atmosphere.” Kathy Jacuk said. In front of each seat was a pair of small glasses, each with a sample of red, and white wine. They were guided through by a wine expert Derek. He talked about the scents in the wine, and how they should taste. After the formal tasting was over, they raffled off vintage bottles of wine.

Tom Cahill heard about the event through a networking group. One of his friends heard about it, and extended the invitation to the group. “Look at what they’ve been able to do with the new hospital. Why wouldn’t you want to support that?” he said. The Milton District Hospital opened its 330, 000 sq. ft. expansion in October, 2017. . It included an expanded Emergency Room, Maternal/newborn unit, and an MRI.

The event ended with a cheque presentation for $2500. The foundation is responsible for buying necessary medical equipment. MDHF is has approximately $500,000 to raise in the Our Home, Our Hospital campaign. Tickets are on sale for the 2018 Gift of Life Gala. For more information on how to give, visit: www.mdhf.ca
