It was a shopper’s paradise April 13, and 14 as Milton Transitional Housing (MTH) brought its fourth annual Fashionista Flip to the Italian Canadian Club of Milton (ICCM). It also marked the second annual VIP night.
The VIP Night began in 2017. “People like the opportunity to come out on a Friday night when it’s not as hectic and frenzied as Saturday,” MTH Executive Director Donna Danielli said. MTH was established in 2010 to help fight homelessness in the Milton Area. Individuals and families are able to stay in the program for as long as two years. They have graduated 10 clients since 2012 from their program, which includes nine units. They’re hoping to expand to 10 units by the end of 2018.
This year’s theme for the fashion show was the Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Megan Markle. Models were dressed in clothing fit for flying, a garden party, the wedding itself, and the reception. “It’s a good cause, to have fun with my friends,” Rajesh Aari said. Aari was one of the models. Following the Fashion Show was buffet-style Tea at the Escarpment Tea Room.
While attendees enjoyed tea, the room was reorganized for shopping. “The sheer generosity of our community and the overwhelming level of clothing donations always warms my heart,” Danielli said. Items included everything from purses to evening gowns, and accessories. Attendees returned to the hall after tea, and were given big plastic bags. They were given a chance fill them at a cost of $2/ item. Some walked out with as many as 30 items. “Not only is it so much fun to see them enjoying themselves, but the money raised from the ticket and clothing sales goes a long way to helping those who are experiencing a housing crisis in our community,” Danielli explained. The event raised $2800.
