September 16th marked Milton’s second Annual Hope in High Heels, a men’s only walk in heels to support ending violence against women. Walkers of all ages collected pledges to help raise funds for Halton Women’s Place, which provides a safe haven without abuse for women and their children.
The weather was warm and clear for the many walkers that came out to take part in the event. Troy’s Diner helped host the walk and donated lunch to all registered participants.
Several members of Milton’s Town Council were there to give a hand and join the walk along with Milton’s local MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris. Milton Councillor Mike Cluett played a significant role in helping organize and drum up support for the event. “It was so amazing to see so many men and boys that came out today to show support of women and to send a message that violence against women is wrong. The money raised by this event will go towards helping women and children who feel it necessary to leave a life of violence. I want to thank everyone who attended and who will keep the message alive that we are part of the solution” said Councillor Mike Cluett at the event.
CFL Player, Chuck Winters, was the Special Guest Speaker at the event and gave a personal and heartfelt message to all participants.
