The Town of Milton will be hosting a New Year’s Day Levee on Tuesday January 1st from 1 to 3 pm at Milton Town Hall (150 Mary Street). Residents are warmly invited to come and exchange New Year’s wishes with Mayor Gord Krantz and councillors.
“I would like to welcome my fellow Miltonians to the Mayor’s New Year’s levee. We look to meet and mingle with you, reflect on past accomplishments and welcome opportunities for the year ahead” says Town Councillor Sameera Ali.
“We as members of Milton Town Council are looking forward to meeting the residents and helping to celebrate the new year. This is a long standing tradition that our previous councils and current one wants to ensure continues as we open the doors of Town Hall to its residents. We look forward to serving you New Years Day.” said Regional Councillor Mike Cluett.
“Levee is a great opportunity to meet your municipal leaders over free coffee and snacks, I look forward to it all year” said Regional Councillor Zeeshan Hamid.
The tradition of the New Year’s Levee dates back to 1646 when a governor in Canada hosted the event to wish the citizens a happy new year and inform them of important events. It continues to be celebrated in municipalities across Canada.
It’s also a time when public servants will literally serve the public with coffee and refreshments. Tasty treats (provided by La Rose) and fresh coffee (provided by Tim Hortons) and tea are cheerfully served to all who attend by Milton’s Town Council as the New Year is celebrated.
As well as enjoying warm hospitality and meet and greets with Milton Town Council the levee provides an opportunity to learn updates on various town projects and speak to local elected council members. This year residents can also bring non-perishable food items which will be donated to the local Salvation Army.
Hope to see you there
