The 39th Annual Strawberry Fair took place on Saturday, June 22 – a day which just might have been the most beautiful in the summer of 2019 thus far. Presented as always by the Milton District Hospital Auxiliary, the event drew crowds from all over the city.

Marlene Lue, a volunteer for the Milton District Hospital Auxiliary, manned the entrance to the Fairgrounds to greet the many visitors. “I enjoy doing this and giving back to the community. I also enjoy the social aspect as well!” she laughed. Beyond the core Auxiliary team, the event draws a number outside volunteers as well. Brooklyn Ryder, who attends Craig Kielburger Secondary School, won Miss Teenage GTA earlier this year, and will compete for Miss Teen Canada this summer. She loves volunteering her time at events like the Strawberry Fair and Milton Street Fest.

Many families gravitated first to the Children’s Area, which featured a tented sandpile, Tandia face painting, a Teddy Bear Hospital, Princess Elsa and Spiderman characters, and much more. Excited children lined up for bouncy castle slides and parents joyfully looked on.

Mom Ashley Fehr watched as her son Braden played a balloon popping game at the Splash Aquatics Inc booth. She was happy to find local entertainment and describes how they came to be at the Fair, “We actually had to be out of our house today because we’re getting our countertops done. We knew about the Fair and decided to head over here!” Livia Fu and Seamus O’Sullivan are parents from Burlington who made a special trip to Milton with their son Sebastian. They explained, “We heard about the Strawberry Fair through Facebook while looking for family friendly activities.”

In addition to the summer hamburgers and hot dogs, and delicious Strawberry themed treats, other 2019 Strawberry Fair activities included a butter tart festival featuring The Baking Twins and Bruno’s Bakery, a new car show case from dealerships such as Milton Kia and Gallinger Ford Lincoln, and a full day of on-stage entertainment. Notable acts included The Milton Concert Band, a Kicks for Kids demo, and acts from the Rick Imus Music Studio.
