Milton Muslim Moms, along with its community partners, was proud to host the first interfaith iftaar for the Milton community on May 15th at the Milton Fairgrounds. The goal of this event was to bring people of all backgrounds together to promote unity. Many community religious leaders along with the honorable Member of Parliament Lisa Raitt and members of Milton Town Council were in attendance.
Organizer Maliha Ahmed Khan explained the reason for this event, “The purpose of this iftaar was to share Ramadan, the holiest month in Islam, with our friends and neighbors, to open our fast with them and to share a part of our lives with one another”.
It was a very heartwarming experience to see so many people of different faiths come together as a community and open doors for better understanding of each other’s values.
One of the organizer’s Zainab Jafri said “this event could not have been made possible without the support and generosity of many of the local business and individuals in Milton”. Organizers are already planning to keep this going in future years. Organizer Hafsa Hussam exclaimed “We look forward to reaching out to more people next year”.
