On Sunday January 21st Halton Jugarati Seniors Samage held their 1st meeting of the year at Grace Anglican Church in Milton. On this day they celebrated India’s 69th Republic Day. They had an over whelming response from the members. Entertainment was provided a Professional group Jhankaar Academy DanceIndian Folk Dance from Brampton, were just amazing. A Little boy Master Jayen Shah charmed the audience with the wonderful Bollywood Dance.
The Chief Guest for the event was, Milton Mayor Mr. Gordon Krantz, who congratulated the HGSS members and the committee for India’s 69th Republic Day celebrations. He said that Arts-related programs like this have a significant and measurable impact on seniors’ cognitive, emotional and physical well-being. Older adults who participate in this kind meetings- programs report a higher overall rating of physical health, fewer doctor visits, less medication use, fewer instances of falls, and fewer other health problems than those who do not participate.
Hassu Bihari, the secretary of HGSS welcomed and introduced him to the members and the guests as one of the youngest active, respectful seniors of not only in Milton but Canada. Also she congratulated him for his service since 1960 that leaves him 57yrs. of active service with the Town of Milton. A definitely positive example to other seniors that age does not make any difference, it is just a numbers.
Mrs. Divya Kapadia, committee member welcomed and congratulated Halton MPP Indira Naidoo -Harris as recently she has been given an active portfolio of Newly-appointed Education Minister by Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.
Hon. Indira Naidoo-Harris congratulated the members and the guests for India’s 69th Republic Day. Being an Indian she was happy & was proud to attend the celebrations. she thanked the committee for inviting her. Mrs. Hassu Bihari asked her how she felt being the Ontario Minister of Education and she told that she is excited to embrace the new role. Rick thanked HGSS committee for the kind invitation and said that it was great being a part of the celebrations and he was very happy to see the seniors are doing so well. Mr. Bhikhabhai Patel welcomed the guests and congratulate the members for India’s 69th Republic Day and briefed everyone about India’s Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.
One of the committee member and retired doctor Mrs. Uma Shah explained, the spring festivals “ Utrayan-Kite festival, Makar Sankrati Pongal and Vasant Panchmi which is celebrated in different ways & all over India. Kalpna Shah, the committee member briefed every one the monthly meetings and outlined the various cultural festivals.
Mr. Bhupendra Modi, the treasurer introduced HGSS official Accountant Mr. Mani Pichumani and his lovely wife Rupal Pichumani of Liberty Tax Service. Mr. & Mrs. Pichumani were very happy and honoured to be part of the ceremony and personally they were very happy to meet Hon. Gordon Krantz. Mrs Jassy Hundal from North Halton’s Women support services was overwhelmed meeting the Hon. Guests and the members. Mrs Mina Bhatt, the committee member gave out flowers to January born members and wished them. She also welcomed the new members. On behalf of HGSS Committee Hassu Bihari thanked the Honourable Guests and the members for attending the HGSS’s 1st meeting of 2018. The token of the gift was awarded to Jhankaar Dance Academy Group gift by Hon. Gordon Krantz, which was appreciated by the Choreographer Bhumi Vaidya and Jigna Padhiyar. Mrs. Divya Kapadia thanked monthly sponsors. With being served delicious snacks, the meeting concluded and every one left with the beautiful memory of India’s 69th Republic Day celebrations.
