When Laylo Atakhodjaeva started researching food waste in Canada she discovered that 40% of food basically ends up in landfills. She found out that stores might be throwing away perfectly edible food. “In my religion,” Laylo said “it is sinful to waste anything and I knew that I had to do something about it. After more research, I realized Community Fridges that have been so popular in Europe to reduce food waste could be ideal in Canada as well.”
Long-time residents of Milton will recall Super A Video – a beloved home video store once located in the plaza at the corner of Ontario Street and Derry Road. It was there amidst the movie stacks that the idea for the Milton Film Festival was born. MFF Lead Programmer Katie Pearce says that’s where current Festival Founder and Director Jennifer Smith first began dreaming of the possibilities.
Samina Amin brings her passion for art to everything she does, including her job as a relator. It helps her in advising clients while staging a house. “When I go, I can tell people what to use; how to present a house,” she said. She likes to bring bright colours into décor through the use of paintings, and pictures.
